OpenAI appears to have closed its deal with Apple.

Apple held talks with both Google and OpenAI about integrating their chatbots into iOS 18, according to Bloomberg, but it looks like OpenAI won out. The pair plan to announce the news at Apple’s developer conference, WWDC.

The Information confirmed, per a source, that the deal has been secured, adding that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is concerned about how it could conflict with their partnership.

Think inside the box.

We’re expecting a bunch of AI features at WWDC, but phones can only run limited AI functions on-device. How will Apple square the need to process user data off-device with privacy?

According to The Information, the answer might be a “virtual black box.” By using custom M2 chips, it could claim user data remains just as secure as if it were processed on-device. That’s one way to think different.

Gemini Earn customers will finally get most of their funds back.

People who participated in Gemini’s lending program, which suspended withdrawals in the wake of the FTX collapse, will get “approximately 97 percent” of their money. Perhaps predictably, the Earn program also had some legal issues.

Yes, I can confirm this is the ROG Ally X.

I’m the only one outside Asus to have touched one (don’t ask me why!) and Asus wouldn’t let me publish pics that day... but this new leaked image is exactly the device I touched, minus new texturing. The new leak also corroborates a doubled 80Wh batteryand claims it’ll last 3 hours of heavy gaming.

Watching season 3 of The Bear is non-negotiable.

It’s a little less than a month before season three of The Bear is released in one big chunk of episodes as large as the Michelin Man who doles out those coveted stars. This latest season features the revamped restaurant opening to the public for the first time which means we can probably expect even more anxiety-inducing episodes like “Review” or “Fishes.”

Microsoft’s ‘missing link’ between Nvidia DLSS, AMD FSR and Intel XeSS is here.

DirectSR (don’t confuse with Auto SR) promises to let devs add the most popular upscalers to their games, all at once, with a single API. There’s no mention of frame gen or specific DLSS versions, but it does natively support AMD FSR 2.2 — so we’re at least getting a decent temporal upscaler right out the box.

Also, check this:

In addition to running super resolution natively on a D3D12 device GPU, DirectSR can also be used to perform super resolution on ML coprocessors, such as NPUs, using the same API surface. This offers flexibility for apps to free up GPU resources, or even take advantage of hardware-accelerated super resolution on available ML coprocessors when the GPU doesn’t natively support super resolution.

The Musk/Trump bromance is heating up.

Twitter main characters past and present have met recently to discuss possible government roles for Musk should Trump win in November. According to The Wall Street Journal, Musk and Trump have “discussed ways to give Musk formal input and influence over policies related to border security and the economy.” Oh, and also voter fraud. Meanwhile, Trump is out on the campaign trail talking about how he’s going to ban the sale of electric vehicles.

A quick review of the Sitpack Campster 2.

Not every chair is a gadget, but this one sure is. Its lightweight, one-piece, collapsible design packs down small but still feels rock solid when sitting on uneven ground. The Campster 2 costs $110 before adding accessories like an insulated beer holster and a cozy quilted cover.

Click through the gallery for details and more impressions.

1/14

It’s tall for a camp chair, which makes it suitable for taller tables. The seat is 12 inches (30cm) off the ground, with the back measuring 28 inches (71cm) at its highest point.

Samsung plugs Galaxy AI features into Galaxy Watches.

Samsung’s Fitbit-like new Energy Score and Wellness Tips insights are apparently powered by “Galaxy AI,” even if it’s unclear exactly how. The sleep algorithm also adds tracking for “movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart rate and respiratory rate during sleep.”

Next-gen Galaxy Watches will get these as part of One UI 6 Watch, which arrives later this year, but a beta program starts next month.

Beats’ $79.99 Solo Buds will be released on June 20th.

Preorders for the Solo Buds, Beats’ most affordable true wireless earbuds yet, start on June 18th. The Solo Buds strip out features like noise cancellation, and their tiny case doesn’t even include extra battery power. But you’re left with a pair of earbuds that should prove very comfortable. As for how they sound, I’ll have a review up sometime next month.
