Apple finalizing agreement with OpenAI to use AI technology in iOS 18, Bloomberg reports
Apple is reportedly nearing a deal with OpenAI to use its AI technology in iOS 18, according to a report from Bloomberg, which notes how Apple has also held talks with Google about licensing that company’s Gemini chatbot, although those discussions haven’t led to an agreement, but are ongoing.
Generative AI is expected to be a big talking point at WWDC in June, Apple is reportedly pushing to “add AI to as many apps as possible,” with the company exploring new AI features for Apple Music, including auto-generated playlists, plus the use of AI in productivity apps, like Pages and Keynote.
According to Bloomberg, “Apple Inc. has closed in on an agreement with OpenAI to use the startup’s technology on the iPhone, part of a broader push to bring artificial intelligence features to its devices, according to people familiar with the matter.”
“The two sides have been finalizing terms for a pact to use ChatGPT features in Apple’s iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the situation is private. Apple also has held talks with Alphabet Inc.’s Google about licensing that company’s Gemini chatbot. Those discussions haven’t led to an agreement, but are ongoing.”
WWDC will take place from Monday, June 10 through Thursday, June 14, with the main keynote taking place at the beginning of the week on June 10, which is when the iPhone maker is expected to announce iOS 18, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, and macOS 15, in addition to the second-generation version of its visionOS software for Apple Vision Pro.
