I'm almost certain this kind of pattern should give the correct result, this is a textbook usage of ?. -- compiler reads this the same way as the original pattern.

The other one... Yeah, might be a bit funky. I need to mess around a bit on SharpLab and see where the differences come in so I better understand why it causes issues.

Fair enough!

I reverted it and the code analysis indicated we could use this pattern to inline the cmdAst definition. What do you think?

Verified this in a simple test case with SharpLab. As long as the method returns a bool value, the compiler sees basically the same thing. Current code vs the original compiled & decompiled to show what this is essentially equivalent to:

@vexx32 Codacy is saying you are introducing more issues than you are fixing.

Can you please review those issues?

@vexx32
Copy link
Collaborator Author

vexx32 commented Jun 17, 2019

@TravisEz13 yeah I've seen them. Codacy sees the inline variable declaration pattern if (myVar is Type newVar) and thinks I'm putting in an if statement that lacks braces. Something in its logic is simply incorrect, not sure exactly what's up, but it's not handling these right:

image

I think those are a majority of its complaints here.

It's also making recommendations about removing methods / changing method access modifiers, which I think is probably better determined by you guys if we need to action on any of those recommendations than me tinkering around. 😄

There are a few unused methods/props here too, unsure if you want anything done with those.

@iSazonov

Codacy doesn't know new C# features and reports many false positives.

We can maybe disable everything except PowerShell on Codacy.

@iSazonov

Codacy does useful recommendations too which we follow and which is not in CodeFactor.
It makes some recommendations unacceptable to us but I find the tool useful as whole. Perhaps we need configure it more carefully.

@iSazonov

We could have two configs for CodeFactor and Codacy.
First minimal set with mandatory rules for mandatory CI (to block PR merging)
Second config for optional CI with extended set rules (like complex methods, XML docs...)

Sounds good to me. I agree that it does make some more insightful suggestions at times. But there are also times where it just... makes no sense. Higher rate of false positives, I guess you could say. 🙂

* Have console host not enter command prompt mode when using `Read-Host -Prompt` (PowerShell#9743)

`Read-Host` calls into `$Host.UI.Prompt()`. However, this method is also used when the host prompts for mandatory parameters that aren't provided. The method expects to be called when given a `FieldDescription` and if the input starts with `!` it enters `CommandPromptMode`. In this mode, you can type `!?` to request help, for example. However this mode is not something you can use via `Read-Host` (only if calling `$Host.UI.Prompt()` directly passing in a well constructed `FieldDescription`). When using `Read-Host -Prompt`, the cmdlet creates a `FieldDescription` where the name is the prompt and the rest of the properties are empty.

The fix is that if `Label` is empty, we can assume it's being called from `Read-Host` rather than being called to prompt for a mandatory parameter and thus not enter `CommandPromptMode`.

* Add ability to pass `InitialSessionState` to the `ConsoleShell.Start` (PowerShell#9802)

* Use the original precision (prior-dotnet-core-3) for double/fload-to-string conversion (PowerShell#9893)

.NET Core changes to return "shortest roundtrippable string" by default for the ToString() method of double and float types. This results in ToString() for double/float values sometimes return a string in 17-digit/9-digit precision format. This PR updated the double/float-to-string conversion in PowerShell to continue using the old precision specifier before the change in .NET Core 3.0.

Update PowerShell SDK version for hosting tests

* Merged PR 9168: Disable Enter-PSHostProcess cmdlet when system in lock down mode

This is based on an issue, where Enter-PSHostProcess on a locked down (WDAC enforced) machine allows any admin to connect to any another local hosted PowerShell process and execute commands as that user. This amounts to privilege escalation on the policy locked down machine and something we want to prevent.

Fix is to check for system lock down and disable Enter-PSHostProcess cmdlet with an error message.
