[Windows 10] Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection blocks etcher #2958

  • Etcher version:
    Any version

  • Operating system and architecture:
    Windows 10 1809 and later

  • Image flashed:
    Any image flashed to SD or USB

  • Do you see any meaningful error information in the DevTools?
    No

If "Controlled folder access" is enabled on Windows 10 under the "Windows Security" app then etcher will fail with no meaningful error message to describe the action needed to be taken to unblock the application. This will occur regardless of process elevation privileges.

I'm not sure if Microsoft has an API for registering an application at install or not.

As a workaround you may either add an exception or temporarily disable the security feature which can be found below:
