Welcome to the home of the Game Boy development community!

Donating to gbdev is a great way to support the community and push the projects we maintain forward. We mostly use the money to:

  • organize events (such as the gbcompo21) and give prizes
  • fund maintainers and contributors to our repositories
  • donate back to some of the packages we use
  • pay servers and domains.

To learn more, all the expenses and incomes are transparently tracked on our OpenCollective (GitHub sponsorships are transferred there once a month).

Our main commitments consist in:

  • Gatheting quality content,
  • Digital preservation,
  • Mantaining, overhauling, correcting and distributing technical documentation,
  • Spreading and promoting on socials the contents produced by community members,
  • Community management
  • Maintaining development toolkits

  • RGBDS - The assembly toolchain for the Nintendo Game Boy & Game Boy Color
  • GB ASM Tutorial - Game Boy assembly programming tutorial
  • Awesome Game Boy Development - A curated list of Game Boy development resources such as tools, docs, emulators, related projects and open-source ROMs.
  • Pan Docs - New home of the infamous (25 years old!) Pan Docs historical document: the single, most comprehensive Game Boy technical reference
  • Archiving and mantaining historical copies of old documents and contributions to the scene
  • Mirroring and preserving lost content
  • Homebrew Hub - A digital archive of homebrew games for the Game Boy and the Game Boy Advance. Everything is playable natively in the browser through webassembly builds of accurate emulators (binjgb and mgba). Provides community submission, tagging and rating features. Hosts and serves ROMs and screenshots for each entry.
